Turkish Delight

Day 2 of Chocolate Nemesis Week, where I eat nothing but chocolate I loathe, and I bring you the Turkish Delight.

“What?!?” and “Why?!?” were the first two questions that occurred to me after taking a bite of this. It is like eating warm jelly that tastes like flowers.

Inside the Frys Turkish Delight is, as you may have guessed, Turkish delight; a jelly usually found in Turkish tourist shops.

Something that you may not know is why it tastes like flowers. It’s because it is made from flowers. Roses, actually. In fact, I have a bottle of the flavour in my house.

I just don’t like the texture, the dryness it leaves, and the unsatisfying lack of crunch that nice chocolate bars have.

The adverts in the 80s used to say “Frys Turkish Delight. Full of Eastern promise.” I disagree. “Full of Eastern flowery-scented goo” would have been more apt.

I agree with everything you said, but I love turkish delight even though the soft gooieness sticks to your teeth and your of danger of going into sugar-shock.
But it does lack a certain crunchiness.

It tastes like rose petal water that I used to make in my back garden.

I remember trying one of these years ago and biting into it and thought exactly the same “It tastes like flowers” – horrible. yuck!

On the other hand, my wife likes turkish delight – without the chocolate on that you can only seem to get at christmas time in the shops !

    Good post btw :)
